Raf Simons confirmed as DIOR Haute Couture’s Artistic Director

News out early this morning (3am Eastern standard time) from PARIS — is that ‘finalement’ Christian Dior (part of the LVMH Group) has named Raf Simons to be its next Artistic Director.   Evidently he will unveil his first collection for the house during Paris Couture Week in July this year.

According to an article in WWD, his official title is artistic director of haute couture, women’s ready-to-wear and accessories collections. The appointment marks the end of a long search process that has captivated the industry, and it confirms a report in WWD on 13 December 2011 that the fabled French house was closing in on Simons as the successor to John Galliano after 15 controversial and successful years with DIOR. Simons significantly becomes Dior’s sixth couturier.  The appointment is also sure to ignite a fresh rivalry between Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, which just named Hedi Slimane its creative director. Slimane was the designer of Dior Homme from 2000 to 2007.

Let us know what you think of this decision, as much as it has strongly been rumoured for almost a year , now there is confirmation, we’d love to know your thoughts.
