Description:
Our client, a progressive Hong Kong based footwear and accessories retailer requires a General Merchandise Manager possessing both strong leadership capacity and extensive experience with a background in Footwear/Fashion/Accessories Merchandising/Buying. Fashion Apparel will be considered.
The General Merchandise Manager will be required to develop and manage the entire Footwear and Accessories merchandise portfolio for a specific area of accountability, ensuring all buyers are maximising and reacting to merchandise opportunity, which is in line with the company image and meets the agreed sales and profitability targets. Furthermore, to lead and develop the team in order to deliver the business unit objectives. This position also involves the management of three direct reports.
In addition to following company policies and procedures, key accountabilities include, but are not limited to: financial management, merchandise management, relationship management and leadership management.
Financial management:
you will be expected to develop and communicate the annual business plan, set seasonal merchandise objectives and business strategy and achieve sales and profit targets based on these agreed plans. Furthermore, to review the business regularly looking at strategic/growth opportunities.
Merchandise Management:
the role will require you to look for opportunities within the business to grow market share. You will need to be innovative and forecast upcoming trends by attending worldwide exhibitions on regular basis. In addition, you will be working closely with the Marketing Department to derive the seasonal marketing plan and lead the team to reach seasonal marketing initiatives.
Relationship Management:
you will be required to manage the local and international vendor partnership and their expectations to ensure that the company has the best in-house support for its brands with opportunities for exclusivity, and a strong partnership is formed and maintained. You will be working with vendors and need to show support and appreciation in order to encourage vendor commitment to the company through activities such as special events, seminars and other ad-hoc partnerships.
Team Leadership:
you will be required to demonstrate and reinforce the company vision And values at all times and provide the necessary leadership to gain commitment from buying team. Furthermore, you will need to identify and execute ways to increase employee loyalty, satisfaction and pride with the company experience. Reinforcing the company message to the team and reinforcing the need to drive profitability at the company through the merchandise mix and full price sell through will be required.
Seven to eight years buying experience is essential. Experience with accessories would be ideal, however, men’s and women’s apparel buying experience is also acceptable.
